Why Does Music Feel So Good?
Music, not math, is the common language of the world. The article explains some interesting science behind how our brain rewards the genre of music we listen to. The highlight of the article for me was:
New music is presumably rewarding not only because it fits implicitly learned patterns but because it deviates from those patterns, however slightly.
That’s incredibly fascinating. It does bring up new questions though such as why do I enjoy Opeth but also Leonard Cohen? The patterns couldn’t be more off. Or, why do I enjoy Opeth but not similar Swedish progressive metal bands? One answer at a time I guess.
